Once you have heard via radio or from emergency personnel that it is safe to leave your home or place of shelter, it is important you make sure your neighbours are safe.
When an emergency happens, relevant State and Federal Government authorities and other service agencies coordinate recovery operations to help people and communities get back on their feet after an emergency.
If required, Evacuation Centres will be established to provide immediate assistance to those evacuated from their homes or in need of shelter. Evacuation centres are usually coordinated by the Department of Community Services (DoCS) who can help you with welfare, food, accommodation and clothing needs as well as providing personal support.
Disaster Recovery Centres will also be established to provide a one-stop-shop for support and assistance. The agencies providing services in the Disaster Recovery Centres may include:
